The workplace can be a high-intensity, high-stress environment, with deadlines looming, problems needing to be solved, and an endless number of tasks to check off of your to-do list. Here are some great ways to manage on-the-job stress every day.

Wake up on the right side of the bed

First of all, get a good night’s rest. If you’re sleep-deprived, you’re much more likely to have memory issues, erratic mood changes, trouble thinking and concentrating, and weakened immunity. Lack of sleep negatively affects your cognitive processes in many ways, while getting enough sleep reduces your risk of depression, improves critical thinking skills, and helps your brain form connections that help you retain information.

In Florida, insomnia is one of the qualifying conditions that will legally allow you to be prescribed medical marijuana. If you have insomnia, reach out to us at Marijuana Doctor.

Take breaks with CBD

Taking frequent short breaks can help you stay focused. You may not think you have time to just relax for a few minutes, but giving yourself a little time off can actually make you more efficient and productive when it’s time to get back to work. Breaks are even better if you can squeeze in a power nap. They’re called power naps for a reason! Think about it.

CBD is a great addition to your breaks. Add a few drops to your coffee or tea, or snack on a few edibles. Keep some at your desk, and have a little whenever you need it.

Eat Right

As the famous line from Beauty and the Beast goes, “If you’re stressed, it’s fine dining we suggest!” Well, they have a point. Food — and not just any food but good, high-quality, healthy food — is a great destresser. For a short snack, have some fruits, berries, and nuts. They’ll give you some energy and are great brain food.

For more substantial meals, have lots of vegetables, lean meats, whole grains, and foods with unsaturated fat. Now that’s “food for thought.”

Get organized

One of the best ways to destress is to get a clear idea of just how much work you have to do and the steps you have to take to get it done. The more disorganized you are, the easier it is to be overwhelmed by the work you have to do. If you have a clear gameplan, a formerly insurmountable amount of work can seem much more manageable. You might want to ignore it and just not think about it, but seeing the big picture can really help you tackle your tasks and get the job done.

Focus on one thing

Thinking about all the work you have to do can be overwhelming. So, why not do the opposite? Just think about the next thing you have to do, and make it something simple. If you have a big project sitting on your plate, just think about the first step and tell yourself you’re just going to get that little thing done. If you’re taking a break, just think about the break and wait until you’re getting back to work to think about work.

Talk to a friend

Connecting with another person, especially one you have a positive, rewarding relationship with, can be very de-stressing. You can talk through your stress with them, putting things into perspective, or change the subject and talk about something that you both enjoy, or maybe even do a little gossiping. Maybe tell a joke. Laughing is a great way to let off some steam. Plan to do something with them after work or over the weekend. It can be a reward for surviving the stresses at work and give you something to look forward to.

Meditate

Meditation is a great way to reduce stress, and it’s something simple and easy that can be done anywhere. Just sit down, close your eyes, and breathe. Maybe put on some music, or use an app for guided meditation. There are plenty of meditation apps in the iTunes or Android app stores.

Remember, meditation isn’t about completely clearing your mind of thoughts, it’s about acknowledging the thoughts and gently letting them go.

Do something fun

If you’re stuck in a rut, do something else for a little while to distract yourself. Ideally that something else should be something fun, and in a different environment if possible. If you’re inside, go outside. If you’re sitting down, stand up and take a walk.

Do a little reading, jog around the block, or just jump around and be goofy. You might look a little silly, but when you get back to work you’ll feel better and be more productive.
